Happy Birthday Benjamin

Yes I am a little late posting this…..so sue me…LOL. Recently Benjamin celebrated his 9th birthday. I can’t believe that Benjamin is 9!!! It is true! How is it possible that I am old enough to have my youngest child be 9. Am I that old……never mind….don’t answer that question. Here are some highlights of his party.

Hand/Eye Coordination

Today Matthew had an extra occupation therapy session and he did a paper to work on hand/eye coordination.

Everywhere that is circled is where he hit the line and he has to do one push-up. That always makes him laugh when he has to do push-ups. The cursive writing as you can see is a work in progress. He writes his letter the wrong way. A’s, D’s and B’s are some of the more difficult ones for him. He works on cursive everyday but he still makes the letters backwards unless I remind him to “go the right way”.

Zoob Tubes

Today in occupational therapy, Matthew worked with Zoob tubes.  His therapist gave him a picture and he has to figure out to make the picture with the Zoob Tubes.

I don’t know if you can tell but it is supposed to be a giraffe. This skill works on hand strengthening and visual motor. The Zoob’s look easy to snap together but they were a challenge for Matthew.

Snoop Dog or Snoopy??

Last night I almost fell out of my chair laughing at Benjamin. The boys were watching Charlie Brown Halloween cartoon and then Benjamin said “there is Snoop Dog”! OMG!! I lost it!! I said Benjamin that is Snoopy NOT Snoop Dog! Then he started laughing too. Anyway I just had to share that because it was so funny.

You just had to be there!

Just for future reference Benjamin:

This is Snoopy!

Emotions

Matthew is currently working on emotions (along with other things too) in speech therapy. Here is a paper that he completed today. His hand writing was not very good but it was because he was in a hurry.

IMG

The 1st one says “ what is something that might happen to make you joyful”. Matthew wrote getting Madden 12 or NCAA 12 (the game)

2nd one says “happy”. Matthew wrote going to the park or going to the jumpy house.

3rd one says “relaxed”. Matthew wrote sitting down and playing a game”.

4th one says “sad”. Matthew wrote you can not ride a bike”. He meant that he was sad when he could not ride his bike without the training wheels and Benjamin could.

5th one says “depressed”. Matthew had a hard time with this one. At first he said he didn’t know. Then he finally wrote when I did not get to play basketball. He meant when he couldn’t play basketball because he didn’t get picked for the team (which NEVER happened). I think he still is confused about that one!

Overall though, I think he is making lots of progress.

Long Time Gone!

Well it has been a long time since I have written anything about us. There are many reasons.

I am homeschooling 2 boys, one with learning disabilities, trying to keep my house in a somewhat orderly fashion and I have just NOT felt like writing!

Catch-Up:

Matthew is currently on his 3rd CD on teaching textbooks (math), reading up a storm, writing sentences correctly 90% of the time, receiving Occupational and Speech therapy twice a week in our home now and in great health. Recently the Dr. said he has gained 7 lbs. since Jan., which for Matthew is a miracle.

Benjamin is currently on his 1st CD on teaching textbooks, we are working over-time on hand writing. I don’t know who taught him to write but they should be FIRED! He is reading better but he still doesn’t really like to. Benjamin is in great health and hardly has a sniffle.

I have been so busy with schooling and trying to keep the house running that I have put off writing anything. I don’t know why but I guess I just go through phases where I don’t feel like doing it. I am working part-time at home but am going to full-time in Nov. Wish me luck! LOL.

Chris is good and his job is entering the “busy season”, which means working 6-7 days a week, 12 hour days. The money is great but not having him around is hard.

Random Thoughts:

We are praying for rain because Texas needs in desperately! I am loving sending my postcards through postcrossing.com. My parents bought a new house blocks away from the lake so the boys want to be there every weekend. The have tried for everyday but they still haven’t gotten it yet Smile

The Texas fires are all out now and we pray no more start. The weather is changing and I LOVE it. Benjamin’s birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner and we are very excited about that. We will pay our LAST mortgage payment in December and so we are patting ourselves on the back. We are planning to go on vacation in Feb or March. We have never been to Colorado so that is where we are going to TRY to go. I hope we do! I am going to try to read and write more often.

That should catch you up for now. I am planning to blog more often, but as many homeschooling moms know, it is not easy to do.
